 Media consumption audit: blog tasks


Create a blog post on your Media 1 Exam Blog called 'My media consumption'.

Answer the following questions in as much detail as possible to complete your audit. There may be plenty that you answer 'none' or equivalent. However, this means the final section where you reflect on how you can improve your media consumption is absolutely vital.

Newspapers
  • Which daily newspapers (if any) do you read?- I do not read any newspapers.
  • What sections of newspapers do you turn to first, and why?-If i were to read a newspaper id turn to the gossip section that may relate to scandals that are currently occurring.
  • What sections do you never read, and why?-I do not read any sections that don't seem appealing or have any correlation to my life now.
  • What kinds of stories do you usually read and why?-Usually i read stories that include celebrities.
  • Do you, or someone else, buy the newspaper you read?-No if i do look a newspaper it usually comes from buses or online.
  • Do you look at the online versions of any newspapers? Which newspapers? Why do you visit their website and not others?-No expect from when i see these websites and companies post on social media platform i use such as ticktock or Instagram.

Magazines
  • What magazines (if any) do you buy regularly?  Why/why not?- I do not purchase magazines as its not something i am used to and instead i find my information online.
  • What sections of the magazines do you read and not read, and why?-i do not read magazines.

Television
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend watching television?-I no longer watch TV however before i used to but not so much anymore.
  • What device do you use to watch television?-Normally on a TV.
  • What times of day do you usually watch television?-If i do its normally at night or in the evening.
  • What programmes do you like best and why?-I enjoy you tube and that is about it.
  • Do you watch alone or with others? If you watch with others, who decides what you will watch?-Normally alone if not with my family and its a mutual decision.
  • Do you watch 'live' TV or on-demand/catch-up? Do you use any other devices to watch TV (such as laptop or tablet?)-No

Radio
  • Do you listen to the radio?-No i do not but at times when i was younger it would come up on the car and I would listen sometimes.
  • If yes, what stations do you like best and why?-id say KISS or CAPITAL
  • Do you listen to podcasts?-No not regularly but at times potentially on social media at times.
  • If yes, what podcasts have you listened to recently?
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend listening to podcasts or radio?-Id say 1 to 0.
  • What times of the day do you usually listen to podcasts or radio?-Id say maybe for radio in the morning and podcasts at night.
  • Where do you listen to podcast or radio?-car or social media.
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst listening?-cleaning, sitting and chilling.
  • Does anyone else in your house listen to the radio or podcasts? If so, when do they listen?-No.

Film
  • What films have you seen in the cinema in the last month?-Yes
  • What films have you seen in other places – for example, through Netflix, Amazon Prime, satellite/cable film channels (free or otherwise) or streaming?-Not recently.
  • Who else watched the films with you?-No ones just me alone.
  • Who decided what films to watch?-Me.
  • What devices do you typically use to watch films: TV, laptop, tablet, phone etc.?-Ipad or phone.

Online
  • How often do you access the internet?-Very often.
  • Where do you access the internet? At home, at school, commuting etc.-Anywhere snd everywhere.
  • What are the main sites that you access?-Tik tok, amazon prime, instagram.
  • What are the main reasons for accessing these sites – for example, for information, to make purchases, communicate with friends or for entertainment?- Id say for all of above i use social media for multiple purposes.
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst accessing the internet?- cleaning or doing homework.
  • What different devices do you use to access the internet? What is your primary device for accessing the internet?-my iphone or ipad.
  • What social networks do you use regularly (e.g. Twitter, Instagram)? Why do you belong to these networks in particular?-Tik tok as it is very addictive.

Final section: reflection
  • How can you develop the amount and variety of media you consume?-Id say knowing your limits and having a good balance.
  • What will you change in your media consumption habits this year as a result of studying A Level Media?- looking more at the news and watching more films.
  • List three sources of media (websites/newspapers/apps/TV programmes etc.) that you will start to access this year that you haven't engaged with previously.-The times, the guardian and facebook.
